06/23/2024 @ 1200, Lost Hiker, Forsyth Trail, Pine Valley – Man Hours – 32

SAR responded to a search and rescue call in Pine Valley. A 51 year old male was lost on Forsyth Trail. The individual was located and assisted to the ambulance. The male refused medical and left the incident.

06/29/2024 @1404, Injured Hiker, Lava Tubes Trail – Man Hours – 24

SAR responded to a Fall in Snow Canyon State Park. A 58 year old female had fallen on the Lava Tubes Trail. EMS and SAR made contact, carried her back to the IC and she was taken to SGRH for treatment.

06/30/2024 @ 1621, Ill Hiker, Left Fork Subway – Man Hours – 38

SAR responded to an ill hiker on the Left Fork of the Subway in Zion. The 24 year old male had injured his ankle while hiking out. The DPS Star 8 Helicopter crews were able to locate the individual, and hoist them out. SAR went in and located the victim’s brother and escorted him back to the IC. The individual was assessed by medical, and self transported by family.

07/02/2024 @ 1700, Missing Persons – Grand County – Man Hours – 32

A SAR Deputy and K-9 Scout responded to Grand County to search for two missing persons caught in a Flash Flood. They searched for three days and were unable to located the subjects.

07/04/2024 @ 1300, Stranded Mountain Biker, Rim Trail – Man Hours – 20

SAR responded to a 27 year old male stranded on the Hurricane Rim Trail off Sheeps Bridge. SAR teams deployed and located the male. They gave him fluids and assisted back to the IC where his family was waited. No EMS was needed.

07/11/2024 @ 1530, Ill Hiker, LaVerkin Creek, Kolob Canyon – Man Hours – 4

SAR responded to an ill hiker call in the Kolob Canyons area of Zion. AS SAR and the deputy arrived, we were informed the subject had made it out. SAR was sent a cancel page.

07/11/2024 @ 1810, Ill Hiker, Left Fork Subway, Zion NP – Man Hours – 8

SAR responded to the North Fork Trail head for a 51 year old female feeling sick. As SAR arrived, we were informed by medical that the individual was in the ambulance and currently being treated. SAR was canceled.

07/13/2024 @ 2000, Missing Kayakers, Sand Hollow Res. – Man Hours – 24

SAR responded to a report of four missing individuals on Kayaks at Sand Hollow. Incident Command was established at the Dive Park Dock. The four missing individuals were located and assisted to the Dive Park Dock. All SAR members were accounted for.

07/15/2024 @ 1632, Stranded Hiker, I15A MM16 Arizona – Man Hours – 30

SAR responded to a 61 year old male hiker stranded on a hill in Arizona. The high angle team arrived. SAR learned a state trooper hiked in and

was escorting the individual back to the interstate. SAR members checked the individual prior to the arrival of the ambulance.

07/16/2024 @ 1403, Ill Hikers, Hurricane Rim Trail – Man Hours – 38

SAR responded to ill hikers on the hurricane rim trail. A 58 year old female, a 54 year old male, and a 14 year old female were showing signs of heat exhaustion. SAR members located the individuals and transported them to the waiting ambulance for further medical treatment.

07/18/2024 @ 1235, Ill Hiker, Peter’s Leap – Man Hours – 22

SAR responded to a report of a 74 year old male having heat exhaustion near Peters Leap in Pintura. Life Flight was able to land close to patient and give treatment. DPS Star 8 helicopter was able to short haul patient to the ambulance, where the patient was transported without incident.

07/24/2024 @ 1800, Ill/Overdue Hiker, Syler Flats, Browse – Man Hours – 3

A SAR Deputy responded to a search and rescue call in the Browse area. The 19 year old male was lost and showing signs of heat exhaustion. The deputy located the individual in need of assistance. He provided him with water and supplies while he waited for a family member to give him a ride home.

07/26/2024 @ 1700, Missing Person, Grand County – Man Hours – 36

A SAR Deputy and his K-9 Scout were deployed to Grand County to assist on location a missing person. They searched for several days and were not able to find the subject.

07/31/2024 @ 1549, Ill Hikers, Lees Pass, Kolob Canyon – Man Hours – 42

SAR responded to Lee Pass Trail in Zion on a report of two individuals, a 44 year old male and 35 year old female with heat exhaustion. IC was established at the Lee Pass trail head. SAR responded to the patient location and evaluated them. They were given fluids to re hydrate and were escorted back to IC. They were evaluated in an ambulance. Both individuals declined medical transport. All SAR units were cleared.

08/04/2024 @ 1746, Ill Hiker, Johnson Trail, Snow Canyon – Man Hours – 24

SAR responded to a 68 year old male who was became ill while hiking. The male was over a half a mile in and had gotten off the trail. Due to the excessive heat, DPS Star 8 responded and transported the individual to a waiting ambulance for evaluation.

08/10/2024 @ 1454, Lost Persons, Bloomington Caves – Man Hours – 4

SAR responded to the Bloomington Caves on a search and rescue for a group of overdue hikers. Upon arrival, contact was made with the group who explained they were out of the cave and fine. No EMS was needed.

08/11/2024 @ 0815, Overdue Hiker, Wildcat Trail, Kolob – Man Hours – 4

A SAR Deputy responded to Wildcat Trail head in Zion on a report of a missing 46 year old female. While I was en route, the females phone was pinged. The phone was turned off but gave a last ping 23.15 miles south east of the tower. I determined that the last ping was likely at Kolob Reservoir. I was unable to locate the female’s vehicle at the trail head so I continued to Kolob. I located her and determined that she was fine. The reporting person was notified of her status.

08/15/2024 @ 1424, Missing Person, SR-18 MM 12 – Man Hours – 136

SAR was called out to a missing endangered 18 year old female. Her vehicle was located on SR-18 near MM 12. SAR, DPS Star 8, Drones, and a K-9 were deployed. After 4 hours of searching, she was located up a ravine. She was injured and treated by SAR EMS. Star 8 hoisted her out. She was turned over to the waiting ambulance and taken to St George Regional Hospital for treatment.

08/17/2024 @ 1400, Flash Flood, The Narrows, Zion NP – Man Hours – 72

SAR responded to assist Zion National Park Search and Rescue with a possible drowning in the river located inside the park. Search and Rescue was paged and met at the Temple of Sinawava trail head. Rescuers assisted along the river in case a recovery was needed.

All injured parties where transported to a waiting ambulance by Star 8. All other individuals made it out without incident.

08/20/2024 @ 1100, Ledged Hiker, Red Cliff’s Recreation Area – Man Hours – 58 SAR responded to rescue a 64 year old female ledged up in the Red Cliff’s Recreation

Area. The subject was located utilizing a drone. The High Angle team set up two raise systems and rescued the female. She was brought back to the IC a released.
