08/20/2024 @ 1051, Stranded Hiker, Red Reef Trail, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours – 47.5 Search and Rescue responded to Red Reef Trail on a report of a female who was stuck on a ledge. Incident Command was established at the Red Cliffs Campground. A drone was utilized to locate the patient. SAR units responded to her location and removed her from the ledge utilizing ropes. She was then escorted back to IC where she declined medical evaluation. All SAR units were accounted for and cleared the scene.
08/23/2024 @ 1636, Drowning, Quail Creek Reservoir – Man Hours – 1.5 Deputies responded to Quail Lake on a report of a drowning involving a male patient. Deputies assisted with life saving measures. Unfortunately, the male was declared deceased. 08/25/2024 @ 1710, Side By Side Rollover, Sand Mountain– Man Hours – 8 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a report of a side by side rollover on Sand Mountain. Two males were injured in the rollover. Incident Command (IC) was established at the Water Tanks. SAR members in conjunction with State Park Rangers, and Hurricane Medical Units, responded to the location of the rollover near Top of the World. One male was airlifted via Life Flight to the hospital with suspected spinal injuries. The other was transported back down the mountain and elected to self-transport to the hospital. All SAR members were accounted for and cleared the scene.
08/27/2024 @ 0723, Injured Hiker, The Narrows, Zion National Park – Man Hours – 58.5 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Zion National Park to assist with an injured hiker in the Narrows. SAR assisted with transporting an injured male down the river to a waiting ambulance. The male was then transported to the hospital via ambulance.
08/29/2024 @ 0737, Injured Mountain Biker, Quail Creek Mountain Bike Trails, Hurricane – Man Hours – 4.5 Deputies responded to assist with a male who crashed on his mountain bike near Quail Creek Water Treatment Plant. Deputies assisted medical units with locating the male. He was then evaluated and transported via stokes to the ambulance at the pavement. He was then transported to the hospital via ambulance.
09/02/2024 @ 1520, Lost Hikers, Johnson Canyon Trail, Snow Canyon – Man Hours – 23 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a report of three females who were lost with no water near Johnson Canyon Trail. SAR located the females and got them back to incident command without incident. All three declined medical evaluation.
09/22/2024 @ 1447, Heat Related Symptoms, Canal Trial, Virgin – Man Hours – 16 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Canal Trail in Virgin on a report of a female who was feeling light headed and dizzy. The female was located, evaluated, and transported back to the trailhead. She declined medical transport.
09/23/2024 @ 2302, Stranded Side By Side, Navajo Dr. – Man Hours – 8 Deputies responded to a Search and Rescue call located off of Navajo Drive. They located the individuals in a side by side stuck in the sand at the river’s edge. They were able to winch the machine out of the sand with their side by side. They then escorted them back to the road.
09/29/2024 @ 1554, Heat Related Symptoms, Snow Canyon State Park – Man Hours – 3 Deputies responded to a report of two females experiencing heat related symptoms in Snow Canyon State Park off of SR-18. They hiked in, located the females, and provided them with water. They assisted with hiking the individuals to a waiting ambulance for evaluation. The females declined medical transport and were given a ride back to their vehicle.
10/03/2024 @ 1503, Heat Related, Hurricane Rim Trail – Man Hours – 3 Search and Rescue (SAR) team members responded to a report of a female experiencing heat related symptoms on the Hurricane Rim Trail. The patient was located and evaluated. She was then escorted back to the trailhead where she was evaluated in the ambulance. She declined medical transport.
10/04/2024 @ 1331, Injured Mountain Biker, Bear Claw Poppy Trail, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours – 24 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a report of a male who wrecked while mountain biking on the Bear Claw Poppy trail. SAR units responded to the patient location. Life Flight was requested due to the severity of the crash. The male was transported to the hospital via Life Flight.
10/05/2024 @ 1808, Injured Climber, Emerald Pools, Zion National Park – Man Hours – 15 Deputies responded to Zion National Park on a report of a male who had fallen approximately 200 feet. Zion and County Deputies arrived at the male’s location and he was evaluated. He was then hoisted by UHP Helicopter STAR 9 from the location to a landing zone where a Life Flight helicopter was waiting. Life saving measures were attempted on scene. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of responding units, the male was declared deceased.
10/09/2024 @ 1327, Heat Related Symptoms, Petrified Dunes, Snow Canyon – Man Hours – 9 Search and Rescue responded to Petrified Dunes in Snow Canyon State Park on a report of a female experiencing possible heat related symptoms. The female was located and transported back to the trailhead. She was then transported via ambulance to the hospital.
10/09/2024 @ 1715, Lost Hikers, Red Reef Trail, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours – 35 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a report of a male and female lost and dehydrated near Red Reef Trail in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. SAR located the patients and gave them fluids to rehydrate. They were then able to hike out on their own without incident.
10/12/2024 @ 1524-Lost Mountain Biker, Gila Trail, Snow Canyon – Man Hours – 27 Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a report of a lost mountain biker near Gila Trail in Snow Canyon State Park. SAR team members located the male. He was then rehydrated and assisted out of the canyon to a waiting ambulance. He declined medical transport and was transported to his vehicle located in Ivins by a SAR team member.
