Highlights
03/02/2025 @ 0915 Illness, The Narrows, Zion National Park – Man Hours – 15 (Non Certified) 3 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Zion National Park to assist with a female hiker who had reportedly gone unconscious after having a seizure while hiking. UHP helicopter STAR9 was requested to assist. SAR members began to respond to the patient while STAR9 was en route. STAR9 located the patient and was able to hoist her back to the Incident Command. She was then loaded in an ambulance and transported to the hospital.
03/05/2025 @ 1619, Side By Side Accident, Sand Mountain – Man Hours – 19.5 (Non Certified) 4 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Sand Mountain on a report of a side by side accident involving two patients. The driver reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed when he launched off of a sand dune and into a rocky bowl. The impact resulted in suspected severe spinal injuries to both individuals who were in the vehicle. SAR, in conjunction with Recreation Rangers, and Hurricane Valley Medical units, responded to the location of the patients and evaluated them. Life Flight was also requested. Due to the nature of the patients injuries, both were airlifted to the hospital. One was transported by Life Flight, and the other was transported by Mercy Air.
03/09/2025 @ 1255, Climbing Incident, Hidden Star Canyon – Man Hours – 36 (Non Certified) 3 (Certified)
Search and Rescue responded to Hidden Star Canyon near Yant Flat Trail on a report of a male who sustained significant leg injuries while rappelling. Notification for this incident was received via Garmin SOS device. Due to the patient location, STAR9 was requested to assist. SAR members responded to the location of the patient and began stabilizing his injuries. He was then hoisted back to Incident Command by STAR9 and transported to the hospital via ambulance.

02/18/2025 @ 1701, Stranded Hiker, Red Mountain, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours – 44 (Non Certified) 2 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) Responded to a report of a juvenile female who was stranded part way up the side of Red Mountain. SAR units responded to the location of the patient and fitted her with a harness. They then attached her to a rope and anchor and escorted her back down the mountain. The juvenile and her mother declined medical evaluation. All SAR were accounted for and cleared the scene.
02/18/2025 @ 1747, Injured Hiker, Cottonwood Trail – Man Hours – 1.5 (Certified)
A deputy, in conjunction with Hurricane Valley Medical Personnel, responded to the Cottonwood Trailhead, on a report of an injured hiker. He arrived and located the male subject approximately a mile from the trail head. He was able to access the location of the injured male with his truck. The hiker was loaded into a stokes basket and transported back to the trailhead via truck bed. He was then loaded onto an ambulance before being transported to the hospital.
02/19/2025 @ 1330, Injured Mountain Biker, Barrel Roll Trail – Man Hours – 24 (Non Certified) 2 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Barrel Roll Trail on a report of an Iphone crash alert. Contact was made with the patient by dispatch prior to arrival. The patient had been involved in a mountain bike accident and had a suspected head and shoulder injury. SAR units, in conjunction with Santa Clara Ivins Medical personnel located the male and evaluated him medically. He was then transported back to Incident Command (IC) in a Jeep. When he arrived at IC, he was loaded in an ambulance and transported to the hospital. All SAR units were accounted for and cleared the scene.
02/26/2025 @ 1334, Dirt Bike Accident, Cottonwood Springs Dr – Man Hours – 1.5 (Certified)
A Deputy was in the area of Cottonwood springs north of black gulch trailhead when he came across a rollover incident. The male was a single motorcycle rider who rolled and sustained injuries. He was seen by medical and self transported to the hospital. The motorcycle was towed per the owners request.
03/03/2025 @ 1536, Stranded Motorists, Danish Ranch Rd – Man Hours – 6 (Non Certified) 5 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Danish Ranch Rd on a report of a male and female who were unable to continue from their location due to the mud. Incident Command was established at the Mesa Rim Trailhead. SAR members located the individuals and assisted them with airing down their Jeep tires. They then guided them back to Incident Command where they declined medical evaluation. All SAR units were accounted for and cleared the scene.
03/08/2025 @ 1350, Side by Side Rollover, Sand Mountain West Rim – Man Hours – 24 (Non Certified) 2 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to the West Rim area of Sand Mountain on a report of a side by side rollover. One patient suffered a suspected ankle injury and the other had a small laceration. The patients were located and evaluated. They were then transported to Incident Command where they were evaluated in an ambulance and declined medical transport.
