Highlights
02/16/2025 @ 1930 – 02/17/2025 @ 1000, Lost Hikers, Red Mountain Trial, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours – 362.5 (Non Certified) 18 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Red Mountain Trail on a report of a father and son who were overdue from their hike. Two SAR teams were dispatched and responded from either end of the trail. Life Flight was requested to do a flyover and attempt to locate the missing hikers. They were unable to locate them. SAR personnel located the boot prints of the hikers and followed them for several hours. They began to hear the lost hikers yelling back but were unable to locate their precise location due to the darkness and the terrain causing an echo. UHP Helicopter STAR9 was requested to assist with the search. Unfortunately, their helicopter was down for maintenance. UHP Helicopter STAR8 was requested and responded from Salt Lake area to assist. STAR8 was able to locate the missing hikers stranded on a ledge just below SAR personnel. They utilized their hoist to transport the hikers from the ledge back to Incident Command (IC) at the Red Mountain Trailhead. The two individuals were then evaluated in an ambulance and declined medical evaluation. STAR8 also assisted with transporting several SAR personnel off the mountain.
02/16/2025 @ 2040, Stranded Hikers, Island in the Sky, Snow Canyon State Park– Man Hours- 24 (Non Certified) 2 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to Island in the Sky in Snow Canyon State Park on a report of two individuals who had become lost on top of the mountain. SAR personnel responded to their location and made contact with them. They were then assisted back down off the mountain.
01/29/2025 @ 1310, Unattended Death, Stucki Springs Trail, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve – Man Hours– 66 (Non Certified) 18 (Certified)
SAR responded to a report of an unresponsive male on Stucki Springs Trail. Life Flight responded and Search and Rescue was paged. The male was located and life saving efforts were attempted. Despite best efforts, the male was declared deceased at the scene. STAR9 responded and assisted with transporting the deceased. This incident appeared to be a medical issue but is still under investigation.

01/31/2025 @ 1404, Injured Mountain Biker, Danish Ranch Rd – Man Hours – 2 (Certified)
Deputies responded to Danish Ranch Rd on a report of a male who had crashed on his mountain bike and had a suspected spinal injury. Life Flight was requested due to the nature of his injuries. The patient was located and stabilized. He was then transported to the hospital via Life Flight.
02/01/2025 @ 1624, Side By Side Rollover, Sand Mountain – Man Hours – 3.5 (Certified)
Deputies responded to Sand Mountain on a report of a side by side rollover involving two patients. Life Flight was requested due to one patient having a possible head injury. Deputies, in conjunction with State Park Rangers and Hurricane Valley Fire Medical personnel arrived at the location of the patients. They were stabilized while Life Flight landed near the patients. One patient was transported to the hospital via life flight. The other was transported back down the mountain and declined medical evaluation.
02/02/2025 @ 1831, Stranded Motorcycle Rider, Toquerville Falls– Man Hours – 2 (Certified)
Deputies responded to Toquerville Falls on a report of a male who was stranded after his motorcycle had broken down. Deputies located the male and gave him a ride back to his vehicle located at the Laverkin Shooting Range. The male declined medical evaluation.
02/15/2025 @ 2129, Stranded Side by Side, BLM South West of Sun River– Man Hours – 30 (Non Certified) 4 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to the BLM area South West of Sun River on a report of two individuals who were stranded on a hillside in a side by side that was about to roll. SAR located the individuals and provided them a ride back home. All SAR units were accounted for and cleared the scene.
02/16/2025 @ 1146, Agency Assist, Beaver Dam, AZ – Man Hours – 5 (Non Certified) 5 (Certified)
Search and Rescue (SAR) and SAR K9 Scout and his handler were deployed to Beaver Dam to assist with locating a male who had been missing in the area for several days. Just prior to their arrival, the male was located. Scout did assist with searching a possible fresh grave site that had also been located.
